Interview with founder, Stefanie Vandendriessche

How did Blumbite come to life?
3D and real time 3D have been a part of my professional life for over a decade. In 2001, I co-founded SuStudio, an online video game company in Barcelona, and in 2005 I co-founded Replayful, a web development company in Montevideo. I even experimented with some artistic interpretations of real time 3D worlds and one of my works, Adjusted Daydreams, was selected for the art gallery at Siggraph 2004. So one day I said to myself: why not combine it all? It’s just a matter of applying your know-how to new interactive experiences. And that’s what Blumbite’s moving towards: web development intertwined with architecture and real time 3D.

What are Blumbite’s prospects for 2011?
First of all, we want to keep working on great projects to create high-quality renders. We had some very interesting challenges in the past months and we are eager to find new opportunities to work on.
Yet, sophisticated interactivity is the key to Blumbite’s growth. Our aim is to expand the company and guide it towards Real time Interactive 3D, a whole new generation of architectural applications. We want to start with Unity3D, an innovative tool for walk arounds instead of traditional walkthroughs. We’re always on the look-out for new talents and competitions to show our work.

What are Blumbite’s strengths?
Our location in Montevideo (Uruguay) is far enough to make us cost-efficient and close enough to ensure the quality of our work. This far-yet-near location is one of the hottest outsourcing destinations because of its compatible time zone with the US and its highly-qualified human resources. Blumbite is made up of a young, culturally-diverse and multilingual team of skilled artists, illustrators, programmers and managers that have a vast experience working and living in the US and Europe. Also, 3D interactive visualizations are a relatively new market, so we are eager to show our cutting-edge practices in the field.
